Guest Blog–Bambi Lynn - Never Give Up On Your Dreams

Since getting ‘the call’, I feel like my life has been a whirlwind of activity centered on the release of my first book, Wrath of the Fire God. But in reality, what seems like overnight success has taken more than twenty years.

In the months leading up to my fourth birthday, I remember hearing the words ‘income tax’ repeated often. While coloring with some friends, I decided I could write those words. I knew how to write ‘in’ and ‘come’. ‘Tax’ didn’t sound so hard. I knew which letters made those sounds. So using my sharpest pink crayon, I wrote IN COME TAX on my coloring page and showed it to my mother who sat at the poker table with my dad and two other couples. Their gushing and gawking over my brilliance set the wheels in motion. I’ve considered myself a writer ever since.

In high school, I started writing a romance novel about a girl who runs off to get married. That was my biggest fantasy: to be rescued from my miserable home life by the boy of my dreams. That boy left alright, but he didn’t take me with him. I never finished the book. I spent the next several years before I met my husband enrolling and dropping out of college. After a romance that would rival any novel, I married my soul mate, and we moved to Belgium. The castles and medieval towns stoked my creative fires, and once again I found myself itching to write that book. I needed a more stable career, so I decided to give college one more shot. I managed to get a four-year degree while working full-time. And it took me seven years.

My son was born the same year I graduated. With a new baby in one arm and a college degree in my other hand, I decided the time had come. I would use the time I’d previously spent studying to write.

Four to six every morning is my writing time. Most days, this is all I get, but I’ve completed five manuscripts. Red Sage Publishing saw in that fifth one what only I (okay – and all my friends and family) had seen. When I got the call, I didn’t recognize the incoming number from New York. Assuming it was another political candidate soliciting my vote, I let it go to voicemail. I’m glad I did. I would have hated for my new editor to witness the blathering, squealing fit that ensued.

When Wrath of the Fire God was released, I couldn’t have been more ecstatic. I actually cried the first time I typed my name into the search engine on Amazon and up popped my book. MY book. So don’t give up. Push on. Keep plugging away. It’ll happen for you.

Marcus Valente, a twenty-first century volcanologist, was collecting data near the crater of the volcano when a tremor knocked him to the ground and sent him rolling down the side. When Aemilia rescues him, he gets his first sight of the city. A glittering, thriving Pompeii and not the two thousand-year-old ruins he expects. Marcus decides he must be in a bizarre dream, one where Mount Vesuvius has yet to erupt. He soon discovers that the most famous volcanic eruption in history is less than twenty-four hours away.

About Bambi

Yes, Bambi is my real name.

I grew up on a farm in South Georgia. My high school was very small with a graduating class of less than 100 people. Shortly after high school, I met my wonderful husband who took me to Belgium, where a three-year tour turned into fifteen. While living in Europe, I nurtured my love of all things medieval. I often get homesick for Belgium, but with the world wide web, I'm home with the click of a mouse. I now live with my husband and son in the Deep South.

When not plugging away at my keyboard, I teach World History and English Literature. I love to ride my big, black Tennessee Walker, Jamaica. My husband and I each have a Harley to go with our collection of classic cars and hot rods. Click HERE for more information.
